5 Wapikoni events at Présence autochtone 2018


Wapikoni Mobile is proud to announce that five Wapikoni and Musique Nomade events will take place at the 28th edition of Présence autochtone, held August 7-15 in Montreal-Tiohtià:ke.

In total, twenty Wapikoni shorts were selected, 14 of which make up the August 14 Special Wapikoni Screening. Held at 8:30 pm at Cinéma de Sève (1400, boul. de Maisonneuve West), the screening is entirely made up of Montreal premieres. The following day, August 15, at 4 pm, is the discussion panel Which Indigenous Cinema? A Conversation between 3 Generations of Women followed at 8 pm by the Montreal First Peoples Festival’s closing film, The Circle of Nations 2: Women. This middle-length film produced by the International Network of Aboriginal Audiovisual Creation (INAAC) is a collective feature that focuses on Indigenous women and offers contemporary points of views on various issues such as identity, land, and femininity. Its footage come from 15 Wapikoni short directed by 40 Indigenous filmmakers based in Canada, Bolivia, Chile, Panama and Peru. Wapikoni Mobile’s beautiful projector-bikes will also take part in the festivities. Every night of the festival Vélo Paradiso will be screening shorts at dusk on the Place des Festivals.

Also on the Place des Festivals, on August 11 at 9:30 pm is Musique Nomade’s Nikamotan MTL – nicw concert. This electro-hip-hop show gathers the best emerging Indigenous musicians. A great opportunity to discover new and unique artists, styles and cultures. All events are free except for the August 14 Wapikoni screening, which is $10.
