THE WAPIKONI PARTNERS WITH KIUNA INSTITUTION TO SUPPORT THE NEXT GENERATIONS OF INDIGENOUS CREATORS
The Wapikoni is proud to collaborate with Kiuna Institution for their new program in Indigenous cinema. This pivotal association will support and contribute to the emergence of a new generation of Indigenous creators. This program, which will be offered in Fall 2020, aims to foster a more accurate portrayal of First Nations. Through this program, which will include the Wapikoni methodology Learning by Creating, Indigenous creators will have the opportunity to tell their own stories.
“I am so happy about this collaboration with Kiuna. By combining a college program with Wapikoni’s training methods, we can propel the development of our talented creators even further. Together, we want to promote and inspire the next generation of Indigenous filmmakers and foster the emergence of an artistic signature that places our narrative sovereignty at the heart of the practice. I am also exicited to be able to welcome these students and future graduates on our mentor teams” – Odile Joannette, Executive Director (quote from the official press release of Kiuna Institution and Wapikoni)
