Wapikoni is looking for new members for its Board of Directors

Do you want to get involved with an organization that has rich human values and an impact-based business model? Would you like to safeguard Wapikoni’s mission and vision and contribute your ideas and decisions to ensure its growth and operation ? 

Wapikoni is looking to fill three (3) seats on its Board of Directors with applicants who strongly identify with its mission and whose contribution will enrich this governance unit that is essential to our organization’s sound operations and development. 

WHO WE ARE 
Wapikoni Mobile is a bilingual Indigenous non-profit and charitable organization founded in 2004. Our mission is to support and promote the creative expression and talent of First Peoples through short films, music and XR creative projects, to support their professional development through training, coaching, and mentoring and to distribute their works both locally and internationally. We offer our collective of artists a space for personal, artistic, and professional development where they can meet, be inspired, find recognition, and fulfil their potential. We undertake to build bridges and foster encounters and are committed to inclusion, diversity, outreach, education, collective responsibility, tolerance, and reciprocity. 

Wapikoni Mobile puts creation and artistic excellency at the service of Indigenous narrative sovereignty and believes that in order for Indigenous artists to fully contribute to the influential cultural landscape, systemic barriers to accessibility for both Indigenous talent and general audiences must be lowered. 

Our business model is based on the impact of our services on the artistic and cultural expression of Indigenous Peoples and on their important contribution to social and societal change fostering community healing, identity pride, decolonization of opportunities, and a better distribution of privilege. 

Our actions encourage the development of emergent Indigenous talent in a different way by recognizing the needs of members of our collective of participants and collaborators and their desire to improve the social climate, intergenerational connections, empowerment, collective pride, dialogue, and mediation. They foster healing, resilience, resurgence, recognition and solidarity. 

THE CANDIDATES WE SEEK
In order for members of our board to complement each other, we are looking for candidates whose abilities, skills and experience will support our various fields of activities. We value intergenerational points of view (adult candidates of all ages are welcome) and seek to have representatives from various territories and identities (virtual participation will always be an option).

  • Communications/Marketing/Media relations
  • Administration/Finance
  • Philanthropy/Government Relations
However, the following knowledge would also be interesting (note that this is a non-exhaustive list and we are open to your proposals):
  • Human resources
  • Strategic planning/Policy framework
  • Self-determination/Local governance
  • Therapeutic/Psychosocial intervention/Cultural safety
  • National/International development/Cultural diplomacy
  • Teaching/Pedagogical approach/research
  • XR innovation and creation
  • Museum & art galleries 
  • Multidisciplinary/Interdisciplinary artists
