Biography

Canouk Newashish is from Wemotaci, an Atikamekw community located in the Mauricie region (Quebec, Canada). He has been collaborating with Wapikoni for several years as a cameraman, soundman, editor, director and filmmaker-mentor. His short film Coureurs de nuit (Night Runners) has won many awards and has been selected by dozens of festivals in North America and Europe. Canouk Newashish is the coordinator of the permanent studio in his community and deals with the numerous contracts awarded by various organizations. He also directed short films as part of the series La course autour de la Grande Tortue (Via le monde Productions), broadcast on APTN.
