Biography

MJ Tremblay is an Algonquin from Montreal. She is a photographer, author-songwriter-player, comedian, painter. From a family of photographers, she was initiated around 9 years old to photography, taking photographs as well as processing them in a darkroom. Marie-Josée is passionate about art cinema. She studied in communications at the Cegep Jean-de-Brebeuf. She directed four short black-and-white films: documentary, fiction, animation. Then she took the film studies program at Concordia University. MJ directed her first short film NI L’UNE NI L’AUTRE with the Wapikoni mobile, Escale Montreal 2015. Her film focusses on identity. MJ is animator and interviewer at CKUT 90.3 Fmr radio in Montreal for the show Native Solidarity News. MJ writes her songs and sings for the events of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada.
