Fazzah! is inspired by the culture of Ajloun: the way that the community comes together to support one another, and the importance of the olive tree.
To people in Ajloun, the olive tree is the bridge connecting us all with our ancestors. The famous olive branch represents peace, and the olive trees that dominate our landscape are an important part of our economy, and our culture.
In the Jordanian dialect, “Fazzah” describes the solidarity between the people in a community, particularly when we come together to help each other in times of need. “Fazzah” also has a second meaning - as a warning or an alarm. We want to highlight the beautiful solidarity and unity (Fazzah) within our community, but also warn the people about the ongoing environmental degradation, especially the destruction of our precious olive tree. We hope that after watching this film, people in our area will use “jift”, the waste material left from the olive tree as an alternative fuel source; reducing logging to keep Ajloun beautiful and green.
